Roomba 675 vs 677 : Robot Vacuum Cleaner Comparison

A battery pack supplied by each robot provides a run time of up to 90 minutes. Scheduling an ending time is not possible, but scheduling a beginning time is. The schedules will be discussed later. This section, however, only concerns the lasting power of the robots.

As soon as the battery charges in the 675 and 677 reach about 10% to 15%, they will return to the Home Base to re-charge them before they carry out their next cleaning session. In order to turn and navigate through your home, the robots rely on three wheels.

Two rear wheels propel the robot forward, while the front wheels dictate direction. In today’s standards, they aren’t the best at traversing any type of surface. Larger grout areas might make them change directions if the threshold is higher than about half an inch.

Both of these models use a roller combination as the method of extraction. One smaller roller agitates the carpet using a rubber paddle. Primary rollers use bristles to lift loose dirt and debris. They then collect it.

Their cages adjust to different floor heights and house both rollers. However, unlike the rubber paddles, the rubber paddles barely reach past the top layer of carpet fibers (less than 1/16 inch); thus, they do not stir anything more than the top layer.

Most of the work is done by the brush roller, which is decent. The bristles tend to get wrapped in pet fur, hair, and string, which makes it difficult to get into low and medium-pile carpet fibers. There is a cleaning tool included in each model, however.

Hard floors don’t seem to bother the robots much, either. Although the main floor gets cleaned adequately, some debris may remain in the corners and edges. Roomba s9+ corrected the issue of the side brush spinning too quickly (although it hasn’t been corrected in the past). Although it cleans your home’s edges and corners, it may not meet your requirements.

Standard AeroVac filters don’t provide HEPA-level filtration. These models are insufficient for allergy reduction in your home. The motor area can be kept clean with filters when you replace them on a regular basis. Their job is to do that well.

Several Roombas are equipped with WiFi, which provides users with two methods of controlling them. iRobot Home is a smart home automation system that offers a range of control options, including local control, voice commands, and mobile app.

A Google Assistant or Alexa-enabled device has voice controls. Cleaning cycles can be started and stopped by speaking, and you can set a schedule and send the robot to charge. You can still start and stop cleaning cycles with the voice, but the options are more limited than on newer models.

All control options are available in the mobile app, and you can create, delete, and edit schedules. By using a mobile application, you can set up the robots and update firmware or software.

When iAdapt Navigation was released in the mid-90s, it was a step ahead of its time. It is, however, dwarfed by modern technology more than 25 years later. Despite the lack of a clear pattern in where the robot goes, bump and drop sensors allow it to move.

Until they come across an obstacle, the robots will move straight. If the bump sensors detect an obstacle, the robot will know whether it should change direction or not. Drop sensors will make sure the robot doesn’t tumble downstairs.

The use of the physical containment barriers can also assist in controlling where the robot goes or does not go. The primary difference between these two models is the dual-mode virtual walls. The following information is essential.

Originally, the only difference between the two models was color and the presence of a barrier tower. There is only one virtual wall barrier on the Roomba 677 and not on the Roomba 675. The virtual walls are compatible with both, however.

Both models are compatible with the walls, so you can buy them separately. For now, the barriers are available as part of the Kit for the Roomba 675. It is then determined which robot to purchase based on the color of the robots and their total cost.

Despite the brush roller system and automatic cage adjustment, maintenance for these two robots is quite expensive. If you compare the maintenance routine with the Roomba 960, for example, it will take at least twice as long. 

It is easy for the brush rolls to collect fibers, hair, and strings, so you will need to spend some time cleaning and unclogging them. In order to assist with this aspect of maintenance, the robots are equipped with flat cleaning tools.

You won’t need longer than 10 minutes to complete the routine maintenance once you’re accustomed to it. Cleaning the collection bin, inspecting the filters, and wiping down the robot will ensure the sensors are not clogged up with dust.

In addition, check the wheels regularly for wrapped objects that can cause problems. You should replace the filter (it cannot be washed) as soon as possible.
